Top 11 Reasons Rebecca Otto Wasn’t Endorsed By The Star Tribune

Saint Paul at Fraters Libertas draws our attention to the sad case of the DFL candidate for Minnesota State Auditor, Rebecca Otto. The far-left Otto was the only DFL candidate for statewide office to not receive the endorsement of that Democratic Party organ, the Star Tribune. As Saint notes, the Strib usually endorses a token Republican just so they can indignantly scoff at anyone who refers to them as an organ of the Democratic Party. Nevertheless, the reliably leftist Otto must be wondering: “Why, oh, why, must I be the token non-endorsee?” Here are the top 11 posibilities:

11. Mistakenly thought she was related to Otto from “The Simpsons”

10. Didn’t believe her when she promised to raise taxes

9. Her husband is responsible for wasting two hours of the editorial board’s life by making that crappy movie, House of Sand and Fog

8. Knew a Rebecca in high school who was a total bitch

7. They are skeptical of her claim that she bales her own hay

6. If even Mark Dayton can do the job, State auditor must not be a very significant post

5. Rebecca is a tad too attractive to be a true DFL woman

4. She seemed to know just a little too much about E-85

3. She’s a fat cat who lives on a horse farm (complete with a walleye-rearing pond) in Marine-on-St. Croix

2. You know the media; they’re all just a bunch of Republican whores

1. One of her forefathers founded the Minnesota Republican Party

An item from her website:

"As a teacher, she taught the critical importance of wildlife management through hunting."

She's a killer!

Tax-hiking Pat Anderson told the Pioneer Press she encouraged local government to raise property taxes.

Rebecca Otto is endorsed by Arne Carlson, who supported Anderson last time around. He said the Auditor's office has lost its independence under Anderson, so he switched his support to the more independent-minded Otto.

A grest site to visit...
My name is Mark Johnson, and I've been visiting your blog for past few months
I’m a recent UC Berkeley Political science grad and I along with some fellow Princeton alums have been working hard to launch our own internet startup called Rizzleweb.com.
Rizzleweb is basically an online political community where people can log on and write performance reviews\comments for congressmen, senators, the president, and various other local and state officials across the country. I was hoping that if it would not be too much trouble you could place a link of our site on your blog. If this is not possible (which we completely understand), we still hope you will check out our site, and post some reviews.
Your contribution will encourage us to put more effort in improving our website.

heh!

By the way, it's E85, not E-85. I guess I just lost my Star Tribune endorsement.

Hey, if Otto is endorsed by both prominent democrats and republicans (witness Walter Mondale and Arne Carlson) and the last 3 state auditors in a row of both parties, and didn't get the strib endorsement, I'd say that EXACTLY the kind of person I WANT as state auditor.

And if she's found hundreds of millions of dollars in errors in the current state auditor's reports, I'd say that's a no-brainer she's best for the job.

Anyone who would describe Arne Carlson as a "prominent Republican" clearly knows nothing of his current standing among 99% of the party faithful.

I was trying to apply the Star Tribune's "logic" by calling her a "killer". I have no hangups about hunting as such.

That's from her commercial, isn't it? I think in the business we call that "propaganda."

Hah! Gosh, John f not kerry, I forgot - and THIS BLOG IS IN NO WAY PROPAGANDA. What a relief we can all count on the straight dope from here. :) And Chad the old dude, only you care about the party faithful. It's the million moderates in the middle that get to decide. Admit it, you're all just jealous she's not on your side.

Anon-

I agree that this blog is nothing but a Republican brothel and those who post here cheap whores.

The fact is that Arne Carlson's endorsement means nothing to the "millions of moderates" compared to the Strib's endorsement of Anderson.

You're on to me with the jealousy thing though. Many are the mornings I wake up thinking, "If only we had that one-term legislator Rebecca Otto on our side. She really is the X factor."
