Apprentice Finale

The interesting thing about the show "The Apprentice," is it bucks the trend of reality TV where being a loser makes you a star. The Real World set the standard, casting the drunkest, most immature and most flamboyantly gay people they could possibly find as entertainment. Other reality shows follow suit by having their contestants eat bugs or touch Paris Hilton.

While the Apprentice doesn't entirely shy away from losers in ridiculous situations, by the time you get to the final two you end up with a pair of young professionals with intelligence and drive. So tonight it boiled down to Randall and Minnesota's own Rebecca. Either appears to have much to contribute to a successful organization.

The ads for the finale all mentioned a big surprise. So when no surprise had been unveiled 100 minutes into the two-hour finale, it was an easy call to see that Trump would offer both of them a job. At least that's what one veteran reality TV watcher thought.

At the end, Trump offered a job to Randall. This came as little surprise. Randall is an entrepreneur and Rhodes Scholar with a degree from MIT, as well as other top colleges.

Then Trump asked Randall whether he should hire Rebecca as well. Randall, who exhibits a calm demeanor, showed that he is one cold blooded SOB, saying "NO"!

Actually, I think Rebecca might be the big winner here. She comes out looking highly marketable, and doesn't get the booby prize of having to see the Donald's hair (or ego) at work every day.

We all sat shocked. What a show-boat SOB Randall turned out to be. Wish Trump would have changed his mind on that alone.

The fact that the normally calm Randall would not accept less than the total victory he deserved only made it more clear that Trump overreached on this one. And he knew it.

Rebecca will be just fine. She's only 23 and will have her pick of a number of opportunities.

The best part is that this made the front page on the Strib online, complete with the following error:
"Style + People|'Apprentice' hopeful snubbed
Updated 1 minutes ago.
Rebecca Jarvis
Rebecca Jarvis, the finalist from Minnesota, lost to entrepreneur Randal Pinkett - and than was snubbed by him."

Didn't her mom (Gail Marks-Jarvis) used to work for the Star & Sickle? Or maybe the PP?

Randall was kind of crass towards Rebecca.

All I caught this season was the last half hour of last night's finale. Once Randall was in, what good does it do to for him to throw Rebbecca under the bus? She seemed to handle it well. Trump did seem surprised.... I think that told people something (not good) about Randall's lack of character.

Her mom Gail Marks-Jarvis worked for the Pioneer Press as the personal finance columnist. She recently got a job at the Chicago Tribune and the family moved there.

I am so GLAD GLAD GLAD that Randall said "NO Rebecca." She had the audacity to try to attack Randall's credibility in the board room a few episodes ago by calling him 'irresponsible.' Well if he's irresponsible THEN WHAT MUST SHE BE. Randall is far from irresponsible... so he forgot a sign label.. People make mistakes, SURELY Rebecca should know this since she made plenty of mistakes. But No.... she jumped on the wagon and tried to throw Randall under the bus... and the very bridge she burned, she needed to walk over that night, and guess what Randall said SEE YA. In my opinion... the end result was "what goes around came back around in spades." Then she had the audacity to tell Trump she was a better apprentice, and attack Randall again... then she smiles and wants a recommendation... I DONT THINK SO...

For all those who were unhappy with the verdict... oh well... Randall is not a doormat, and he did the right thing... Get over it.
